Now, no max exodus from Drakkar :) Though it's LoK, it's not done yet and may never be like the original.

This is, per the admin there, a pirated copy of a pirated copy of the original Legends of Kesmai server code which the idiots at EA bought and intentionally shelved to eliminate competition with UltimaOnline. The client program is about a 12 meg download. You must first register with an acct and password. Then Email the admin from NON-Freemail with this acct name and password. Lokfreedom will then give instructions on where to d/l, how to set up program to access which port (suggest you find a way to have firewall monitor this as I read in forums how a competitor with his own server/copy is trying to hack the game as well as player's comp to get em to leave). The insistence on ispmail is also to keep people from making multi-accts or temporary griefer accts. There is a limit of one acct per player and he is checking ISP so dont know how multiple players per house will work out. I played Islands of Kesmai (ascii graphics) then LoK (color graphics) on Compuserve then Gamestorm and loved it. After it died, I found KoD.

Both have similarities... appeared around the timeframe, same topdown isometric view, tick based (timed rounds), click tags to attack, etc and similar spells but every description tweaked to avoid copyright issues (enmiss vs magicmissle, assault vs curse, discs vs spells etc, being D&D both can explain some of it).

However, LoK rounds take about 2 to 3 seconds so you find yourself clicking frustrated (KoD so much faster but then, so are the crits), buying/selling/banking involves dumping on counters (one player at a time). The visible game window is 7x7, up to 4 crits are visible on any hex within that window, all visible on a seperate crit list. You cannot have multiple windows open... body, sack, belt and crit list share one window but there are buttons that you can drop stuff on to sack, belt or drink. I tend to leave sack visisble and drop healing balm on body button to drink while fighting. There are 2 bracer and 8 rings slots and needed as gear is the key for prots for non-psi players. LoK has a decent sized playfield, has 6 facets (alts) of Leng, Kesmai, Underworld, UnderKingdom, Oak, Axe lands vs KoD 2 alts of Nork/MJ, plus Cob, Aleria, NL. LoK has classbased lairs like Carfel for thieves and Shidosha for MAs. The classes are Knight, fighter, wizard, thaumaturge, rogue and MA. The original LoK allowed I think 5 crits, this one has 8. Gear is not tied so can be sold to others, pawned or stolen from dps but good weaps I recall do tie (and that's to crit not account).

I loved LoK. BUT... this is a copy. They are reverse engineering it to either 1) modernize the ancient code that should have been redone better from the IoK to LoK transition or 2) maybe they didn't get all the code and are filling in the missing bits? They have admitted to having some lands working, most quest do not work, they use events for players to gain gear that the broken quests provided and they plan a locker/gear wipe when the new server is up (stats, skills, exp will xfer). Someone used to the old LoK will react to this one like KoD did when Brad changes something old and established suddenly (can you say ud3.5 outer?). Who knows if the attack, defenses, hits probablities match? I played and it felt the same except I have to relearn the commands, no help function and the shops for now dont sell, only buy stuff. I'd have to grow and go deeper to see if I feel the encounters are true to the past.

UPDATE: Played more. At least Kesmai dungeons very much like before, even the routines and tricks. But, apparently, the server resets ground-clearing every 45 mins, even rolls back items/ stats unless you log out then in every now and then to make sure it's saved). If you played before, maybe should wait til it's in Open Beta on new server. Though I loved the game, Drak grew on me quickly. I will play this now and then to reflect back on the past.

Shameless BUMP!!

Here's what you'll get back from LoKFreedom, the port used is old, he will provide it in the return Email since, without him activating acct, you're not getting in anyway.

Welcome to LOKFreedom J

Ok, what you need to do is download the legends.exe from the link below, and then follow the instructions.

http://www.ultiaris.com/downloads/legends.exe

You will need to extract the file to C:\

The password needed is EASUCKS

After you've extracted the file, go to the folder, and click on the little sword icon. You will have to be in 16 Bit color if I remember right.

The IP is kesmai.ods.org and the port is 12537

The path is C:\legends

If you get an error dealing with 009.dat... this means that you did not install it to the right spot, and you'll need to go back, and make sure you installed to C:\

Any Other Problems, give me a yell :)

LOKFreedom !!

Edit (can ya guess? A TYPO!) <g> -Storm

Hi all. I was surfing around the internet and happened across your website and forums. I couldn't help notice this thread since I'm an 'ol LOKer from the past too.

If anyone is interested in playing LOK again, please start your adventure here: http://fantasy.neonsurge.com/

http://www.lokfreedom.com is nothing more than a stolen copy of an older version of the server code that was written from scratch by Attila and Katura. They made the mistake of trusting the wrong people who turned out to be less than good human beings. Please don't support his (lokfreedom) efforts to subvert the original authors.

The server code wasn't "reverse engineered", it was a complete rewrite on the part of the developers and if you played the original game will find that there is virtually nothing missing in the current version of the server created by Attila and Katura.

Contact them through the first link above if you love LOK, you won't be disappointed.

Well, emailed June 6, no reply. Emailed again on June 14, no reply. I explained I did play the lokfreedom server but couldn't get in and that I'd try this other one at your behest. If your server admin can't even reply by saying, Uh, you played the other one, forget it, I'm left with no answer. And now that lack of response is spread in this forum as well as anyone asking me in Drakkar.

At least I got an answer back from LoKFreedom and acct access again.
Starfire: There are two wolves fighting in each man's heart. One is Love, the other is Hate.
Ghost: Which one wins?
Starfire: The one you feed the most.
